Just a little clarification about bike requirements.  Basically, bring a bike you can ride all day.

2014. Ch-ch-ch-changes.

Alright, so last year, due to numerous requests, we really worked our asses off to avoid gravel roads.  This year, screw that.  There's gonna be gravel.  Not crazy amounts, but enough that you'll notice it.  Can you get by on 23mm tires?  Probably.  Should you?  Probably not.  28mm?  You'll probably be just fine.  Can I guarantee it?  Nope.  Am I going to bother pre-driving the whole course to ensure the roads are rideable?  Nope.  This is where common sense and grown-upness come into play.  If there's a river cutting right through where there was supposed to be a road, we'll just have worry about that when you get to it.  Hey, you get what you pay for.
