Roadkill is not what you should be. Roadkill Cycling were a group of friends living in and around Oak Park, IL who liked to ride bicycles. Faster than the basket bike folks take to the farmers market. Slower than the bikes you'll see running the Tour de France. Roadkill members started this ride, but it is in no way affiliated with them. Not that they exist in the material plane, anyway.
250. Stands for 250 kilometers. Or just around 155 miles. Since this ride is in the middle of Summer and in an area that has absolutely no tree cover, expect heat. And probably humidity.
Brevet is French, so we pronounce it, "bruh-vay". It roughly translates to "license" or "certificate", but in cycling it means "unsupported and long bike ride".
So what does all this crap mean?
The RK250 is a completely unsupported ride from the Chicagoland area to the Champaign-Urbana area. This whole thing started out as a drunken college question in 1992 and reared its head during the Winter of 2012, when the idea of riding 155 miles in the middle of Summer sounded like a totally sane and reasonable idea.
The route will be on public roads and bike paths. You can expect
For 2015, the RK250 will be run as a Gentlemen's Race. Teams of 2 or more will start, ride, and finish together. As far as "race", well there's really nothing to win, so we won't be counting order. The point is to ride together and support each other until the finish. It's a really long day, so there's a good chance you'll need the support by the end of it.
There will be regular rest stops for food and refreshments.
This is a one-way ride, with no scheduled transport back from Champaign to Chicago. There are trains, busses, and hotels in the area, but YOU are responsible for getting yourself and your bike back home.
If you're interested in riding, see the Rules section before you register.
